| Filthy, Rich and Catflap, or to give them their glorious full names, Ralph Filthy (Nigel Planner) Richie Rich (Rik Mayall) and Eddie Catflap are three of the saddest, grimiest and most pathetic characters you are likely to see this side of "Bottom". The plot, such as it is, revolves around Richie Rich (TVS linkman 1974) struggling in the face of an enormous lack of talent to keep his non-existent TV career going. In this quest for the unlikely, he is disably assisted by his 'friend' and minder, Eddie, who, whilst despising the ground that Richie walks on, is only too aware that he is onto an easy ride, and Ralph, self confessed theatrical agent, pornographer and alcoholic. In a series of silly adventures, including hosting a dinner party for Tarby and get blackmailed by the Nolans, you are given a wonderful insight into how Bottom came into being and given more laughs per minute than even the Young Ones can boast. This is gloriously stupid stuff, though the six episodes here were, in this reviewer's opinion, never enough. |
